• Should I pinch off my pansy’s seed pods?

    Plant questions and answers! This week: My pansy is growing what looks like seed pods. Should I clip them off?

Clearly, if you’d like to collect the seeds, then no, just leave them to ripen, dry and begin to crack open… But if you want more flowers then, yes, by all means, clip or pinch them off! In fact, don’t wait until the seedpods appear. Growing seeds is resource-intensive business, so to save the plant some energy you can cut off the fading flowers as soon as they begin to fade. Your pansy will reward you with more flowers, bigger and sooner!
